Did you get better at painting as time went on?

Yesterday, i finished my third oil painting and i wasn't very happy with it. I've had experience with graphite all my life, but i only started painting this year (I'm a junior). I'm pretty comfortable with pencil, and my first two painting, but this was my first in color(portrait painting by they way) and i don't know what happen. I could have done much better and right now I'm feeling really bad about it. I'm just really worried that i won't be as good as i want.The biggest problem was definitely color mixing.I can assure you though, i won't give up and i will practice this summer. When you first started painting (in any medium) did you feel this way?
